Hello friends, my name is Desiree’ Abbott. On the education front, I graduated from University of California Davis in June 2012 with my Master of Science in Physics, and from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Physics, minor in Astronomy, in December 2008. In 2006, I did my very first research project on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which gave me my first taste of cosmology, and I was hooked. During this project, I also worked on a high school/community college-level talk about the history of cosmology, where I discussed how our idea of the Universe has changed from ancient to present times. From there, I proceeded to a project working on pinning down exactly what is Dark Energy, which I started during a summer research internship at University College London in 2007 and continued to work on until I left Purdue in the summer of 2009.
On the professional front, I am a Data Visualization Developer in the tech industry. I thoroughly enjoy using my technical skillz to write code and do mathy things while at the same time using my creativity to make them look pretty and help communicate data and technical concepts to people who aren’t so inclined.
It should be noted that all of the opinions I express are solely my own.
